Wedding Highlights Film :: Calli + Taylor :: “Passing the Edisto Test” :: Edisto Island, SC

As a father to four boys, I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand the father/daughter dynamic.  I’ve seen it hundreds of times while filming weddings, and t’s one of those beautiful things that I never get tired of seeing.  Some dads are nervous and quiet, some cry, some don’t show any emotion at all… But it’s something that we always try to capture since it’s such an important part of the day.  Calli’s dad did it right.  During his speech, he held it together most of the time… Until it came time to talk to Calli.  The minute we heard his speech at the reception, we knew we wanted to build their wedding film around his words.  Not only did he give an amazing tribute to his daughter, but he welcomed Taylor into the family with open arms and made sure Taylor knew how much he appreciated the love he has shown for his daughter since the time they met.

It was the perfect way to cap off an already amazing wedding day.  From the prep and beautiful scenery at Cassina Point Plantation to the wedding ceremony at Edisto Island Presbyterian Church, it was an absolutely perfect day for Calli and Taylor…. although a little hot for October!  Edisto Island has a huge history with Calli’s family, which you’ll soon see in the video, so it means even more that they were able to share the experience with all of their friends and family on their wedding day in one of their favorite places that holds such an important place in their family history.

Calli and Taylor, thank you so much for letting us be a part of telling your story.  We had so much fun at your wedding and we hope you enjoy re-living this beautiful day for many years to come.

Wedding Film :: Sam + Dana :: “Live Love and Live Long :: Charleston, SC :: The Citadel

We were so excited when Sam and Dana asked us to be a part of their wedding celebration at the Citadel in Charleston.  We always have an amazing time when we visit Charleston and film at the Citadel and we knew their wedding wouldn’t disappoint.

When we arrived in town, we joined Dana and her bridesmaids at Lordis Salon and Spa in downtown Charleston to capture some footage of them getting ready. We had a great time laughing and enjoying the day with them before heading over to the beach house where Sam was getting ready.  After scoping out the beach house, we found an amazing place for Sam to get ready.  The beach house had a third story ocean view porch that made the perfect backdrop for him to get dressed.  Easily some of our favorite footage from the day.

When the time came for the ceremony, it was absolutely gorgeous inside the Citadel chapel.  Sam and Dana said their vows in front of their friends and family before making their exit and heading over to the Holliday Alumni Center on the Citadel campus.  It was an amazing night as Sam and Dana celebrated their new marriage with all of their friends and family.

Wedding Film :: Megan + Jeff :: “It Was Always You” :: Boone Hall Plantation :: Charleston SC

Megan and Jeff have an amazing love story that started in 7th grade. When you have a story like that, then you definitely need to have an amazing person tell it for you on your wedding day…… and that’s exactly what Megan and Jeff did. They had none other than Lori Beth Denberg from Nickelodeon’s “All That” show come in to town and be the officiant at their wedding. It was just one part of their amazing wedding day at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC that we were honored to be asked to capture.

Since Megan and Jeff had such a special story, they decided to write their own vows so they could share their story with everyone that came to share their special day with them.  After the ceremony, they had an amazing reception on the Boone Hall property that was highlighted by the sunset backdrop over the water.  You definitely don’t want to miss this amazing love story as it unfolds.

Same Day Edit with Bride and Groom Reaction :: Carter + Ellison :: Sea Island, GA

Back in January, we had the opportunity to create our very first Same Day Edit for Carter and Ellison’s wedding in Sea Island, Georgia.  Since then, we have had a lot of interest in Same Day Edits, especially from people wondering what the benefits of having a Same Day Edit might be. The special thing with Carter and Ellison’s Same Day Edit was that it was a total surprise for them. Their parents decided to have us do the Same Day Edit without them knowing. The plan was to have everyone gather on the lawn near the beach at the end of their reception to watch the Same Day Edit just before an amazing fireworks show.

As the time neared, we set up everything on the lawn and had it ready to play. As soon as we pressed play, I stood to the side and just watched the crowd’s reaction while the video played. The amazing thing for me was watching Carter and Ellison’s reaction as they realized what was going on. We purposefully structured their video to start off with the rehearsal dinner the night before and then flow into the wedding day just so they would be shocked to see just how far we were able to show into their wedding day. Every time a new segment would play, there were gasps from the crowd… The aerial footage of the wedding day played, the crowd gasped… the vows played, the crowd gasped… The ceremony footage played, the crowd gasped… The reception footage played, the crowd gasped. It was an amazing experience to be there to witness not only Carter and Ellison’s reaction, but also the reaction of their friends and family.

Most importantly, I watched as Carter and Ellison enjoyed reliving their day in that moment. I watched as all of the emotion of the day came back to Carter and Ellison and it was honestly a moment I will never forget.

Below is a video we created to show people just why Same Day Edits are worth the investment. We shot Carter and Ellison’s reaction to the video as the video played that night and put it side by side with their Same Day Edit so you can see what they saw. You can see the emotions from the day coming back to them. It was truly an awesome moment and I am so glad we had the chance to share this time with them.

Same Day Edit :: Carter + Ellison :: “No Time at All” :: Sea Island GA

In 2010, when I started this company after leaving the TV Show, “One Tree Hill,” there was one thing that completely eluded me. Back then, we heard rumblings of wedding cinematographers doing these things called “Same Day Edits” where they would shoot your wedding day and have the video ready to view by the end of the reception. At the time, I couldn’t fathom being able to pull something like that off, but I knew at the time it was something I wanted us to strive for and work towards and that day finally came with this wedding.

For starters, we did have a little bit of a head start on the Same Day Edit since they brought us in to town to cover the Rehearsal Dinner. Since they weren’t planning on having any speeches at the Reception, we made the decision to pull Ellison’s speech from the rehearsal dinner because he nailed it and it gave us the perfect bookend to the film. Everything past that moment was shot the day of the wedding. When we first talked with the event planner for this wedding, Walton Events, we knew this wedding was going to be unlike anything we had done before. They literally pulled out all the stops on this wedding and it was incredible to say the least. After talking with them a few times, they told us Carter’s parents were interested in doing a Same Day Edit as a surprise for Carter and Ellison. The plan was to have everything ready by 10:30 that night and show the video out on the beach just before their fireworks finale. Knowing this was a surprise to Carter and Ellison just pumped us up even more. This video also featured the debut of our drone camera for aerial footage. We worked weeks in advance to set everything up and have it ready for this wedding and we were able to incorporate some of our drone footage into the Same Day Edit as well which we feel added an even bigger “Wow” factor.

When we entered the planning phase for this wedding, we decided to call in our friend Lee Morton from Clickspark in Baltimore. We met Lee a year ago when we went to film in Baltimore for Steve and Meg. He was a friend of theirs and we had a great time talking to him and getting to know him. When we left Baltimore, Lee was just beginning his wedding cinematography business and now he has grown it into one of the best, so we figured what better time for a reunion than this wedding. Kent and Lee handled the shooting that day while I set up an editing station at the reception venue and we began a constant unloading of footage from cameras to computer. One of the biggest decisions we had to make was where to cut off the shooting for the Same Day Edit. Originally our plan was to end all filming for the edit just after the First Dances. However, after talking with Carter and Walton Events, we decided to include some dancing in the edit as well. Carter had told us that the one thing she was most excited about for her wedding was seeing all of her friends together in one place. Her guests were literally there from all over the United States, so we talked with Kelly and Kristen with Walton Events and they too agreed that it would be awesome to have some footage of the guests dancing at the reception in the video. And that is just what we did. Just before our cutoff time, we were able to load footage of them dancing into the edit and it was the perfect way to end the video. Hands down one of our most memorable experiences.

Wedding Film :: Tim + Betsy :: “Into and Through Tomorrow” :: Rehoboth Beach, DE

When we think about Tim and Betsy’s wedding, a lot of things stick out in our head… The 2 lane roads from Virginia to Delaware we had to travel, the 6 a.m. morning after shoot, the battle with the weather (that we won,) Hooman from Vesic Photography killing it on the dance floor while taking pictures… The list goes on and on. But the one thing we will probably talk about most down the road is the Dueling Pianos that provided the entertainment at their wedding. It is one of those things that we heard from the bride, but then we had no idea how it would all go down at the wedding. Needless to say, they shocked everyone with the entertainment level. The guys with Dueling Pianos International just did a phenomenal job of entertaining the guests at the reception. Needless to say, by the end of the night they made a believer out of us and we are so happy we have the chance to share some footage from the dueling pianos show in their wedding film.

For us, part of the fun with doing wedding films is trying to tell a different story than the story we told in the highlights video. For Tim and Betsy, we used their highlights film to tell a story of laughter on their wedding day and how that was such a huge part of their relationship.

For their wedding film, we wanted to show the celebration their wedding day was, but also focus on the intimacy of their relationship. From there, everything else just fell into place, from the incredible speech Betsy’s father gave at the reception that we used for the beginning to the intimate footage we got on the “morning-after” shoot with Tim and Betsy. It is a piece we are especially proud of and we couldn’t be more thankful to Tim and Betsy for giving so much of themselves to their wedding video and allowing us to shoot such an incredible piece.

Wedding Highlights Film :: Tim + Betsy :: “The Jelly to my Peanut Butter” :: Rehoboth Beach, DE

Sometimes you have things that seem that they were just meant to be. Tim and Betsy’s wedding was one of those things. Their wedding date was October 1, 2011. We had more inquiries for that date this year than any other date, but for one reason or another, things just didn’t work out with any of them. Then, about a month before their wedding, Betsy contacted us and ended up booking us for their wedding in Rehoboth Beach, DE. So, 4 weeks later, we were off on our first venture into Delaware.

One of the things that was a constant theme throughout the weekend was laughter. Tim and Betsy love to have fun with each other and are one of the most down to earth couples you could imagine. As we began to hear stories about things they had done together and witnessed their personalities first hand that weekend, we realized that Tim and Betsy are the kind of people that live to share memorable moments with each other. This became very evident the more time we spent with them throughout the weekend and especially during their ceremony.

Tim and Betsy had an amazing ceremony overlooking the bay at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Even though we had been a little worried about the rain for a while that weekend, we managed to escape a rain shower and their wedding went off amazingly. It really gave us a chance to stretch our creativity and shoot their ceremony in a brand new way. Needless to say, it was a time that was filled with touches of Tim and Betsy’s personalities and PLENTY of laughter.

Tim and Betsy’s reception was headlined by a completely unique entertainment idea we had never seen. Since Tim and Betsy were such a huge fan of Dueling Pianos, they decided to book a pair of Dueling Pianos for their reception. The guys from Dueling Pianos International tore the roof off of the place (Can’t wait to share this footage in the wedding film.) We loved the fact they were able to take something they loved and incorporate it into the wedding in such an amazing way.

We finished the weekend out by joining Tim and Betsy on Rehoboth Beach the next morning at 6:00 a.m. for a sunrise shoot with their photographer, Hooman, from Vesic Photography. It was the perfect finish to the weekend. We had the perfect weather and the perfect sunrise that morning. It really gave us the chance to get some intimate pictures with Tim and Betsy during their first day as husband and wife.
