Wedding Film :: JT + Angela :: “#bestweddingever” :: Chicago IL

As you would imagine, there is indeed a story to go along with the title of this wedding highlights film. As you will see, Angela and J.T. had quite the wedding party. It was literally one of the craziest groups of people we have ever been around and they kept the laughs coming all day long. One of the running jokes throughout the day was the deliberate overuse of hashtags in general conversation.  So, in keeping with that tradition, we decided to give the wedding highlights film a name that followed that trend.

We love having the opportunity to travel and Chicago is one of our favorite cities to visit. Every time we are there we have a great time and J.T. and Angela’s wedding was no exception. Their day was one of the most entertaining we have been a part of in a very long time. One of the best things about their wedding was that since Chicago was such an important part of their lives, they really wanted to showcase the city in their pictures and film. They had an early ceremony in the city and following that, they got on board a bus with their wedding party and we spent the next 3 hours going to various locations throughout Chicago capturing J.T and Angela at some of their favorite landmarks. It was truly an adventure we will never forget. When you couple all of that with their beautiful ceremony, the insane party they had at their reception and their unforgettable wedding party, you have a very memorable event and we are so excited to share the highlights with everyone.

Wedding Film :: Anna + Kevin :: “Milk, Eggs, String Cheese…” :: Grace Church :: Greenville SC

know we say that we work with the greatest couples all the time, but honestly, it’s true. We love the fact we get to work with so many amazing couples and Anna and Kevin are no exception. They are truly a prime example of how to make a wedding a celebration of your relationship.

Anna and Kevin have a great story. To make it short, Anna and Kevin met and dated and then decided to take time away from each other, then realized they were truly meant to be with each other, got back together, dated some more and then got married. While most couples would choose to ignore the “time apart” they had in their relationship, Anna and Kevin made a decision to talk about how important that time was in their lives and how that time helped strengthen their relationship and their love for each other. Hearing personalized vows from Kevin and Anna make me realize just how much we love doing what we do. We love capturing raw moments of emotion like Kevin and Anna showed during their ceremony. We also love the fact that they honored their relationship, but didn’t take themselves too seriously during the ceremony. Things like this are what make for memorable weddings and I am so glad we were on hand to capture everything.

Wedding Film :: Ben + Marie :: “The Full Weight of the Word” :: Spartanburg, SC

Where do we even begin with Ben and Marie’s wedding?  Their wedding was insane from the start. There were so many details, so many amazing speeches and so much love being shared that day and we are so glad we were on hand to capture everything.

Ben is the lead vocalist in The Delta Saints and Marie is a Singer / Songwriter. Both of them live in Nashville, TN, but decided to travel back to Marie’s hometown in South Carolina to have their wedding at the Hines family home. It is a beautiful home overlooking the lake and Marie and Ben knew just how to take advantage of the setting to make everything perfect.

Marie spent weeks making sure the smallest details of her wedding were just right. In fact, she actually made a ton of the small details you see in her film herself. From the gold painted books she used on the tables at their reception to the flags for her photos. She even documented a lot of it on her Instagram, which you should follow if you’re not.

Despite all of the beauty surrounding their wedding and the amazing speeches given by their family and friends, the one thing that completely blew us away from their wedding was their vows. True, they are songwriters and creatives at heart, but nothing could prepare us for the words they said to each other. Literally, it was one of those ‘epic’ moments and I am glad we were there to capture it so they can relive it for years to come.

Wedding Highlights Film :: Steve + Meg :: “Someday Has Arrived” :: Baltimore MD

A lot of times, brides ask us our opinions on whether or not they should have a “First Look” the day of the wedding. Our answer is always a resounding YES! This wedding film is the prime example of why we always recommend a couple having a first look. When you watch the video, pay attention to Steve’s expression change when he sees Meg for the first time. It is literally night and day and I can honestly say that is a moment he will remember forever. In all the years we have been shooting weddings, I can honestly say that we have rarely seen a groom respond the same way when he sees the bride for the first time walking down the aisle. There is just something about seeing each other alone before the ceremony that allows you to let your guard down and truly enjoy your time together.

Steve and Meg were married at Celebrations at the Bay in Pasadena, Maryland, which is just outside of Baltimore. It is a beautiful venue with a picturesque view overlooking the bay which provided an amazing backdrop for the ceremony and our post ceremony footage. Before the ceremony, Meg spent the morning at her house getting ready with her family and bridesmaids. While we were there, we noticed an old record player which had been in Meg’s family for years. Her dad took some time to show us how it worked and we were immediately enthralled, which is when the ring shot idea was born.

Meanwhile, Steve was on the other side of town with his groomsmen. We headed over there to capture Steve and his best man putting up signs near the venue before heading back to the house to begin getting ready for the ceremony. Times like this, I wish I could make highlight videos 10 minutes long, because Steve and his groomsmen provided enough comedy to fill the video, but alas, it will have to wait for the wedding film, which we cannot wait to share (Trust us, it will be worth the wait.)

A huge thanks goes to Lee Morton over at Clickspark Films. Lee was on hand to help us out a lot the day of the wedding and he helped us capture the amazing ring shot (which took numerous takes to capture correctly, but it was worth it) shown in this video.

Wedding Highlights Film :: Coley + Kinsey :: “Practice Makes Possible” :: Lowndes Grove Plantation :: Charleston SC

Back in June, we had the great opportunity to film our first wedding at the Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, SC. When Kinsey contacted us to film her wedding, we were extremely excited to be a part of their day. Not only did they seem like a great couple to be around, but the Lowndes Grove Plantation is a beautiful venue and we couldn’t wait to see how we could capture the day.

Kinsey and Coley were married on the front lawn of the plantation, which overlooks the water, but along with that, we got a nice unexpected bonus. Not only did their ceremony have the beautiful backdrop of the water, but they picked the perfect time of day for their ceremony, because just as their ceremony started, the sun began setting into the water and it was breathtaking.

With all of the personal touches Kinsey and Coley put into their wedding, we really wanted to capture the essence of their wedding day and show as much as we could. The only problem was that there was seriously so much that it couldn’t be captured with a 4 minute long video, (Don’t worry, there will be much more in the full wedding film) especially when you had a great story from the officiant and the stunning sunset as a backdrop for the footage we shot of just Kinsey and Coley.

Wedding Film :: Tim + Betsy :: “Into and Through Tomorrow” :: Rehoboth Beach, DE

When we think about Tim and Betsy’s wedding, a lot of things stick out in our head… The 2 lane roads from Virginia to Delaware we had to travel, the 6 a.m. morning after shoot, the battle with the weather (that we won,) Hooman from Vesic Photography killing it on the dance floor while taking pictures… The list goes on and on. But the one thing we will probably talk about most down the road is the Dueling Pianos that provided the entertainment at their wedding. It is one of those things that we heard from the bride, but then we had no idea how it would all go down at the wedding. Needless to say, they shocked everyone with the entertainment level. The guys with Dueling Pianos International just did a phenomenal job of entertaining the guests at the reception. Needless to say, by the end of the night they made a believer out of us and we are so happy we have the chance to share some footage from the dueling pianos show in their wedding film.

For us, part of the fun with doing wedding films is trying to tell a different story than the story we told in the highlights video. For Tim and Betsy, we used their highlights film to tell a story of laughter on their wedding day and how that was such a huge part of their relationship.

For their wedding film, we wanted to show the celebration their wedding day was, but also focus on the intimacy of their relationship. From there, everything else just fell into place, from the incredible speech Betsy’s father gave at the reception that we used for the beginning to the intimate footage we got on the “morning-after” shoot with Tim and Betsy. It is a piece we are especially proud of and we couldn’t be more thankful to Tim and Betsy for giving so much of themselves to their wedding video and allowing us to shoot such an incredible piece.

Wedding Highlights Film :: Tim + Betsy :: “The Jelly to my Peanut Butter” :: Rehoboth Beach, DE

Sometimes you have things that seem that they were just meant to be. Tim and Betsy’s wedding was one of those things. Their wedding date was October 1, 2011. We had more inquiries for that date this year than any other date, but for one reason or another, things just didn’t work out with any of them. Then, about a month before their wedding, Betsy contacted us and ended up booking us for their wedding in Rehoboth Beach, DE. So, 4 weeks later, we were off on our first venture into Delaware.

One of the things that was a constant theme throughout the weekend was laughter. Tim and Betsy love to have fun with each other and are one of the most down to earth couples you could imagine. As we began to hear stories about things they had done together and witnessed their personalities first hand that weekend, we realized that Tim and Betsy are the kind of people that live to share memorable moments with each other. This became very evident the more time we spent with them throughout the weekend and especially during their ceremony.

Tim and Betsy had an amazing ceremony overlooking the bay at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Even though we had been a little worried about the rain for a while that weekend, we managed to escape a rain shower and their wedding went off amazingly. It really gave us a chance to stretch our creativity and shoot their ceremony in a brand new way. Needless to say, it was a time that was filled with touches of Tim and Betsy’s personalities and PLENTY of laughter.

Tim and Betsy’s reception was headlined by a completely unique entertainment idea we had never seen. Since Tim and Betsy were such a huge fan of Dueling Pianos, they decided to book a pair of Dueling Pianos for their reception. The guys from Dueling Pianos International tore the roof off of the place (Can’t wait to share this footage in the wedding film.) We loved the fact they were able to take something they loved and incorporate it into the wedding in such an amazing way.

We finished the weekend out by joining Tim and Betsy on Rehoboth Beach the next morning at 6:00 a.m. for a sunrise shoot with their photographer, Hooman, from Vesic Photography. It was the perfect finish to the weekend. We had the perfect weather and the perfect sunrise that morning. It really gave us the chance to get some intimate pictures with Tim and Betsy during their first day as husband and wife.

Wedding Film :: Cassie + Dave :: “1 Day, 1 Minute, 1 Second at a Time” :: Chicago, IL

A few months ago, I was talking with a friend of mine from film school and he heard I had left my job on One Tree Hill to move back to South Carolina and shoot wedding films. For those of you who have read the bio on our main site, you know the story behind that move. Since the start of Artifice Films, we have strived to take elements used in the film and television world and apply them to weddings in order to make a more personal, emotional, and professional product. Well, as I was talking to that friend of mine, he said something that made me think about the industry we are in. He asked me why I was shooting wedding videos, and then said “Aren’t you too big for that kind of work now?” Of course, he was joking about me being “big time,” but the meaning of his comment made me think. To so many people outside this profession, they look at it is a downgrade to shoot wedding films. It made me realize why I started this company in the first place: Because for so long, this part of the wedding industry has been ignored and thus the quality of work has suffered. That apparently started a chain reaction, because as I looked around, so many brides were opting not to include wedding videography in their budget and thus missing an important opportunity to capture such an important event. So my main goal for starting this company was so that in a small way, I can join the new breed of creative filmmakers that are starting to re-invent this industry and make videography relevant again. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than shooting wedding films. Each new wedding we shoot is a new couple we get to meet; It is a new film we get to plan and a new story we get to tell. There is nothing more rewarding to us than to be able to create something that will be so meaningful to a couple YEARS down the road…. Long after the popularity of One Tree Hill or the latest film or TV show fades away. While we are just a small part of this growing community, we like to feel like we are making a difference with our work. We like to feel like we are changing people’s perception of wedding videos in general and we hope we are creating something new and innovative with each wedding. This is why we have decided to release some of our full wedding videos. We want to give people a complete view of the work that we do for our weddings. Since Cassie and Dave were our first wedding for 2011, we decided to start with them.

Since we have already done a full blog post dedicated to their wedding here, we won’t go into much detail about their big day. However, Cassie and Dave have a great story on how they met and since that is our favorite part of meeting a new couple, we always like to share those, especially when we incorporate it into the video. Cassie and Dave first met when Cassie was the Maid of Honor at a friend’s wedding and Dave was the Best Man in the same wedding. From there they started dating and a little while later, they were married. Their wedding also presented us with a very unique challenge. Instead of having the typical reception the night of the wedding, Cassie and Dave decided to wait a month to have a reception back in their hometown of Marquette MI so that all of their friends could attend. So, that night, Cassie and Dave decided to have a sit-down dinner at the restaurant where they were married and enjoy a very intimate time with their friends and family who attended the wedding in Chicago. This allowed us to capture the speeches some of their family members gave that night and we decided to build their full wedding film around those speeches. In our opinion, those speeches gave a very intimate look into Cassie and Dave’s relationship and we couldn’t be more pleased with how they fit within the story. We are proud to share Cassie and Dave’s wedding video with you and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Wedding Highlights Film :: Dave + Cassie :: “The First Day” :: Chicago IL

Kent and I had the pleasure of heading up to Chicago for New Years to shoot Dave and Cassie’s wedding. Needless to say, it was an amazing event that we were so honored to be a part of.

We arrived in Chicago on New Years Eve to capture a party Dave and Cassie were having at their house with friends and family that night. We always knew we wanted to start the video off with this, because we really felt this was the start of their wedding weekend.

The next morning, we joined Cassie and Dave and their families down at the Osteria Via Stato where they were getting everything prepped for the wedding that night. We loved the way the entire family came together to transform the room into the perfect ceremony location. It ended up being absolutely beautiful and we loved the candid moments we were able to capture by filming this part of their day. After that, we followed Cassie to a local nail salon and spa where she and her close friends and family spent the morning getting manicures and pedicures. After that, we returned to the Dana Hotel to being capturing Dave and Cassie’s final prep for the wedding. While we were there, we made the decision to focus the video heavily on Dave and Cassie’s vows. Both of them poured so much emotion into their vows that we knew we had to make them the focus of the video. We also had a blast hanging out with Dave and Cassie in their rooms with their friends and family during the afternoon. Both of them were so excited about the evening and they were so relaxed that we were able to capture some great moments with them.

Dave and Cassie had one of the most intimate ceremonies we have ever been a part of. They conducted the full ceremony with their friends and family surrounding them. It really made the entire evening feel more intimate, almost like they included everyone in their ceremony. We felt it really helped add a lot of emotion to the evening and really made their ceremony special.

Following the ceremony, we joined their photographer for a trip down the streets of Chicago to capture the first moments of Cassie and Dave being husband and wife. It was amazing… but what made it even more amazing was that Cassie wore a sleeveless dress at night time in Chicago in 17 degree weather. I have no idea how she pulled that off, but I am glad she did. We concluded the shoot at the Dana Hotel where we visited the rooftop of the hotel with Dave and Cassie to grab some awesome footage of them overlooking the city. It was an awesome ending to their beautiful wedding day.
